We had tremendous response to Dr. Marvin Lynn’s
presentation on Critical Race Theory (CRT) in August. Local and national events of past weeks have shown us the importance of understanding what CRT is, and is not. We will further explore CRT at our community meeting on October 4.
There will be no community meeting in September.
Meanwhile, in the spirit of “back to school”, we offer resources and questions so that you can further explore on your own.
QUESTIONS
Critical Race Theory (CRT) is an academic concept that provides a framework for examining systemic racism and how cultural perceptions of race have affected people in this country from slavery to the present time.
Questions for personal reflection:
1. Have you had an opportunity to have a conversation about CRT while using some of its principles?
2. It is said you are the sum of the 5 people with whom you spend the most time. Thinking about those closest to you, is this a diverse group? Why or why not?
3. Thinking about your social connections — work, school, neighbors, organizations, etc. — is this a diverse group? Why or why not?
4. How are you helping move the needle for racial justice today?
