What is Metro?
Metro isn't just a major garbage and recycling company in Portland; they do a lot. Metro serves as the regional government for the greater Portland area, responsible for regional planning, including land use and transportation, and delivering services like managing the solid waste and recycling system, operating the Oregon Zoo and the Convention Center,
and maintaining a network of parks and natural areas. It's a unique, directly elected regional body that coordinates regional issues that cross city and county lines for a better regional future.
Metro manages the boundary that separates urban land
from rural land in the Portland region and works with communities to plan for future population growth and meet needs for housing, employment, transportation and recreation.
