RtR Community,

The entire year has been spooky, but it's now officially October and we have a family-friendly event you don't want to miss! In conjunction with Friends of Tryon Creek and Your Nature Network, RtR is sponsoring the event as part of our programming through the Metro Parks and Nature Community-led Programs Grant to support a BIPOC Full Moon Hike on Oct. 6! This hike is for community members that identify as Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color, to celebrate seasonal changes and community. Before the hike we will learn about bats that live in Tryon forest, and we'll keep our eyes open for them along our hike.

Depending on group sizes, we will offer multiple hiking options: 1.5 miles of level hiking trails near the Nature Center, or 1.2 mile loop down to the creek and back.  We will stop along the way to share with each other and learn more about the forest plants and wildlife. The hike is usually an hour long and is not suitable for pets.

This event is supported by a Metro Parks and Nature Community-led Programs Award.

What is Metro?

Metro isn't just a major garbage and recycling company in Portland; they do a lot. Metro serves as the regional government for the greater Portland area, responsible for regional planning, including land use and transportation, and delivering services like managing the solid waste and recycling system, operating the Oregon Zoo and the Convention Center, and maintaining a network of parks and natural areas. It's a unique, directly elected regional body that coordinates regional issues that cross city and county lines for a better regional future. 

Metro manages the boundary that separates urban land from rural land in the Portland region and works with communities to plan for future population growth and meet needs for housing, employment, transportation and recreation.
