As we head into September, intentionality will be key in adjusting our approach to meet the needs of this moment, both in our community and in this country.
We are seeing rollbacks across the board when it comes to equity, but especially for things that specifically serve communities of color. Whether it's the dismantling of
the Clackamas County Equity and Inclusion Office, removal of Ethnic Studies from Lake Oswego School District or decreasing support for citywide cultural heritage celebrations in LO, there are no shortage of examples that let us know this work is as urgent as it's ever been.
Responding to these conditions calls on us to not just lean deeper into our antiracist community, but to also embrace a vision of self determination for
communities of color who have been marginalized in LO and thoughtful white allyship that rejects performative and/or transactional engagement.
Our upcoming BIPOC and white affinity sessions on August 31 and September 2 have been curated to get that ball rolling in earnest. Each session will be catered by Classic Shawarma. Once you register, you'll receive an email to place your order. We hope to see you there! More info on these and other upcoming sessions below.
