Hello ,
Respond to Racism LO is
providing a free training for volunteers interested in being facilitators for future RtR community meetings and other programming. This 90-minute training session, "Conscious and Compassionate Conflict Resolution", will be facilitated by Barry Johnson-Smith (https://bjsdeiconsulting.com/?page_id=231) and focus on tough conversations around racism. Customized for Lake Oswego, this workshop is designed to empower participants with the tools to facilitate difficult but necessary conversations about antiracism and specifically respond to the microaggressions and overt racism that often arise in these spaces.
This in-person training will take place on Nov. 11, 2023 at Lake Oswego United Church of Christ, 1111 Country Club Rd. Lake Oswego. It will
include separate sessions for high school students and RtR volunteers (12-1:30 pm for students and 3-4:30pm for adults). Each session has a maximum capacity of 25 participants. All participants will receive gift cards for their time and students will also receive certificates of completion that can be used towards volunteer hours. By completing this training, participants will become eligible to be facilitators for future RtR community meetings and events.
Note: Please do not sign up if you are not able to attend on this day. We recognize that the capacity limits and in-person nature of this training will
limit some participation, so RtR will be providing future facilitator trainings for those interested.
