Hello
,
National Banned Books Week 2022 has officially begun, with activities throughout the week. The recording of our community meeting, Freedom to Read: What’s at stake? is posted at the RtR website and on our YouTube channel: Watch video.
Thanks again to our terrific panel of freedom readers! They spoke passionately about protecting our freedom to read, and gave us an awesome list of actions to take:
- Read a book that has been challenged or banned. Send RtR a selfie with the
book you were free to read! respondtoracisminlo@gmail.com
- Explore displays at your local library that celebrate your Freedom to Read and highlight books that have been challenged or banned around the country.
- Join
the Banned Books Club.
- Follow news and social media in your community and state to keep apprised of organizations working to censor library or school materials.
- Show up for library workers at school or library board meetings and speak as a library advocate and community stakeholder.
- Write letters to your favorite challenged author.
- Help provide a safety net for library professionals as they defend intellectual freedom in their communities by giving to the LeRoy C. Merritt Humanitarian Fund.
- Educate friends, neighbors, and family members about censorship and how it harms communities. Share information from Banned Books Week 2021.
- Join the Unite Against Book
Bans movement to learn what you can do to defend the freedom to read in your community.
- Join or make a donation to Every Library.
