Hello ,
Please join us on Monday April 11 for an evening of poetry, storytelling, and community dialogue. Our guest is Serena Yang, poet, writer, and
activist. Respond to Racism is pleased to host this event in concert with LO Reads 2022, the community-wide reading and discussion of How Much of These Hills is Gold by C Pam Zhang.
Serena
Yang is the 2021 New York City (NYC) Youth Poet Laureate, and a National Youth Poet Laureate finalist. She was born in Singapore and raised in Queens, New York, on unceded Lenape land. Serena began writing as a way to express feelings and experiences she could not yet name. She performed at poetry slams around NYC and became involved with radical Asian American community organizing and
student groups. Serena’s creative work is rooted in, supported by, and written for her community. She believes that poetry and storytelling are critical to justice work because change requires imagining what does not yet exist. Register
